Life is Risky
The loss to airlines has been conservatively estimated to be over US$ 2,5 billion. Some people were stuck at airports for over a week. Life is risky. However, a threat to one party can be an opportunity for another. Hotels near airports did a roaring trade during the no-fly period and until the backlog had cleared up. Not only project managers should be doing risks analysis, but individuals should be doing personal risk analysis too. Environmental disasters, the volatile business environment, intense competition, corruption and pressures to complete projects on accelerated schedules are some of the reasons why we must carry out a risk analysis. A Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP)SM credential for specialists in project risk management is now available through the Project Management Institute (PMI). The PMI recognizes the importance and special qualifications needed to be a project risk manager and the globally recognised PMI-RMP credential will substantiate the applicant’s knowledge, skills and experience in this area. PMI have published a Practice Standard for Project Risk Management. ProjectPro offers 2-day Risk Management workshops in Midrand, Gauteng on 22-23 July 2010. The workshop will be of value to not only practitioners who wish to become certified, but also those wishing to learn more about project risk management. It will be a valuable investment in managing threats and enhancing your skills and career. The course documentation includes a comprehensive manual, Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and PMI-SP Examination Specification. Visit www.projectpro.co.za or email training@projectpro.co.za to register or call 012 346 6674 for more details. The PMI-RMP exam may be taken at Prometric Testing Centres in South Africa.
